Chain cleaner: Cleaning dissolves existing dirt and old lubricant residues; it is performed prior to proper re-lubrication. Cleaners, brushes, and chain sprays each fulfill distinct functions. Compatibility with the O-rings and approval for the respective chain type are essential; a clean sprocket does not replace the need for suitable lubricant.
