  • Paint Decontamination with Detailing Clay from GYEON Q²M

What is GYEON Detailing Clay? GYEON Q²M Detailing Clay is a mechanical decontamination tool that gently removes industrial fallout, brake dust, tree sap, and embedded particles from the clear coat – an essential step before polishing and ceramic coating for a smooth, clean paint surface.

GYEON Q²M Detailing Clay removes embedded contaminants that cannot be fully removed by washing or chemical decontamination (fallout removers). Dirt particles deeply embedded in the clear coat feel rough when you run your hand over them. The detailing clay picks up these particles through mechanical contact and lifts them out of the paint surface – without damaging the clear coat itself, provided sufficient lubricant is used.

    • Mechanical deep cleaning of the clear coat. Embedded particles (industrial fallout, industrial soot, tree sap) that cannot be removed chemically are mechanically pulled out by the clay.
    • Mandatory before polishing and coating. A decontaminated clear coat allows for cleaner polishing and better coating adhesion – detailing clay is part of every professional preparation workflow.
    • Reusable with care. GYEON detailing clay can be reused multiple times with correct application and storage.

Practical Tip from Detailing1: Always use detailing clay with sufficient lubricant – spray a quick detailer or a special clay lubricant onto the paint panel before applying the clay. Without lubricant, the clay can cause scratches. Always discard the clay after dropping it – even if it looks clean on the outside, dirt particles may have become embedded that could cause scratches during the next use.

Detailing Clay in the Detailing Workflow: Before or After Fallout Remover?

Detailing clay comes in the workflow after the fallout remover, not before. First, chemical decontamination (Q²M Iron), then mechanical decontamination with the clay. The fallout remover chemically dissolves iron particles – the clay then removes any remaining embedded particles that the chemicals did not reach. After using the clay, the surface should be washed again to remove any residue before proceeding with polishing or coating.
