  • Dr. Wack S100 — motorcycle care built as one system

What is Dr. Wack S100? A full motorcycle care range from Ingolstadt that thinks in mixed materials — metal, plastic, rubber and paint on one bike. At its core is chain care split into a separate cleaner and lube, plus washing, quick care and helmet. Widely seen as the first complete care range built for the motorcycle.

Dr. Wack S100 is the motorcycle line from Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie, and it's widely regarded as the first complete care range built for the motorcycle. Rather than porting a car range onto the bike, the series thinks in the mixed materials that sit right next to each other on a motorcycle: bare metal chains, painted tank, rubber seals, plastic fairings and the helmet visor. The thread running through it is the chain — you clean and lube it with two separate products, not one do-it-all spray. Around that core sit washing, quick care and shine, all from one source.

    • Four chain lubes for four riding profiles. The range splits the 125, transparent Dry Lube, High End and white chain lube — from the 100 ml travel can up to the 6-pack stock-up. If you rack up 15,000 km a year, you need a different lube than the Sunday rider. S100 doesn't force everyone into one product.
    • Cleaner and lube are split on purpose. The chain cleaner is an acid-free gel that lifts old grease and chain grime before fresh lube goes on. Spray new lube onto a gummed-up chain and you seal the dirt in with it. Two steps, about 5 minutes, a noticeably longer chain life.
    • One line covers the whole bike. From the Power Bike Shampoo through the waterless quick cleaner to the visor cleaner, over 30 products run under one name. That takes the material question off the table for every part and keeps your care workflow predictable.

Detailing1's tip from the shop: We see it all the time — fresh chain lube sprayed straight onto a dirty chain, the biggest mistake in chain care. The lube then binds old grease and grit into the mix, and the chain runs rougher instead of smoother. The right order: first loosen and wipe off the old grease with the S100 chain cleaner and the chain brush, let the chain flash off for a moment, and only then lay the chain lube onto the inner face of the chain run while the chain is warm from riding. Let it soak in for 10 minutes before you set off.

The first care line actually built for the motorcycle

Dr. Wack S100 is regarded as the first complete care line developed for the motorcycle from the ground up, not derived from the car shelf. The difference isn't marketing — it's material science.

A motorcycle hands care products a problem a car simply doesn't: crammed into a tiny space you've got bare metal chains, a painted tank, matte-black plastic covers, rubber seals and a delicate helmet visor all sitting right next to each other. A harsh wheel cleaner that works fine on a car would attack the sealing rings on a bike chain. That's exactly why the series thinks in mixed materials and matches every product to the part it touches.

Behind the line stands Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie from Ingolstadt, Made in Germany. The brand's strength is predictability: stable formulas year after year instead of a new recipe every season. For the home wrencher that means the chain lube that worked two years ago still does exactly the same job today — an underrated thing when you run a care routine over the years.

S100 is part of Dr. Wack's consumer side, alongside the sister lines for car and glass. In the Detailing1 range it stands for the full spread of bike care from one source — from the chain kit through the wash to the visor. If you look after your own motorcycle, you don't have to go hunting for a different brand for every part.

The logic behind it is carried through without compromise: every product knows the part it touches and reacts to it. The chain cleaner is acid-free because sealing rings can't take acid. The helmet cleaner set skips harsh solvents because visor coatings are delicate. The matte wax deliberately doesn't gloss up, because otherwise matte-black fairings end up looking greasy. That material honesty runs across all 30 products, and it's the reason the line works as a system rather than a loose bundle.

Chain care means two products, not one

The chain is the heart of the S100 line, and this is where the most important system decision sits: cleaning and lubing are split across two products on purpose. Try to do both in one step and you'll hurt the chain in the long run.

The S100 chain cleaner with gel formula is acid-free and won't attack the O-, X- and Z-rings of modern sealed chains. The gel clings to the vertical chain run instead of dripping straight off, and it lifts hardened old grease. Together with the S100 chain brush, which reaches into the gaps from three bristle sides at once, the chain is bright in a couple of minutes. Only onto that clean base does fresh lube belong.

For lubing, S100 splits by riding profile. The transparent Dry Lube chain lube stays invisible and barely flings off — ideal for dry roads and anyone who hates spatter on the wheel. The High End chain lube is the high-performance option for long stages and wet weather. The white chain lube makes the coverage visible, and the 125 is tuned for light motorcycles up to 125 cc. Four lubes, four answers.

Pack sizes follow the need: 100 ml as a travel size for the tool bag, 300 to 400 ml as standard, plus 2-, 3- and 6-packs to stock up. A high-mileage rider on 15,000 km re-lubes the chain far more often than the Sunday rider — the multipacks are built for exactly that, not just a bulk discount.

In practice it's your riding profile that picks the lube, not the price. If you're mostly on the road in dry weather, the transparent Dry Lube takes you furthest, because it barely flings off and keeps the wheel clean. If you mix long stages, wet roads and motorway, you're better off with the High End, because the lube film holds up longer under load. The white lube is the check option: one glance tells you whether and where the chain has already run dry — a handy signal, especially for beginners. You can't really go wrong with any of them, as long as cleaner and lube stay separate.

From the chain kit to the visor, one line covers it all

Beyond the chain, the series covers the whole bike — and that breadth of range is the real system idea. More than 30 products under one name take the material question off your hands for every part.

For the basic wash there's the Power Bike Shampoo as a 2-in-1 cleaner that brings its own protection along. No water to hand? Grab the S100 motorcycle quick cleaner detailer — a waterless clean for in-between that lifts dust and a light film without the bike ever seeing the hose. For shiny wheels on the bike there's the wheel cleaner tuned to motorcycle rims.

The mixed-material thinking shows up most clearly at the helmet. Visors scratch easily and won't tolerate harsh glass cleaners. The S100 visor and helmet cleaner set comes with a matching microfibre cloth and softens bug splatter instead of grinding it across the coating. That keeps your view clear without the anti-scratch layer taking a hit.

On top come shine and protection: a quick wax for fast sealing after the wash, a matte wax made for matte paint and unpainted plastics, a metal polish for chrome and alloy. Each of these is matched to its surface — the matte wax deliberately doesn't gloss up, because matte-black parts would otherwise end up looking greasy.

The S100 workflow follows a fixed order

A good result on a motorcycle hangs less on the single product than on the order you work in. S100 is built as a workflow, and it always runs from coarse to fine.

Step one is the wash: foam the bike with Power Bike Shampoo, let it dwell, rinse, chamois it dry. Only onto the clean, dry motorcycle do the care steps go. Step two is the chain, and split at that — first chain cleaner and brush, then after a short flash-off the right chain lube while the chain is warm from riding. The warmth helps the lube film creep into the rollers and pins.

Step three is shine and protection on paint and plastic: quick wax on glossy surfaces, matte wax on matte parts, metal polish on chrome. Step four is the fine work at the helmet — visor last, so no overspray from the earlier steps lands on it. Work in this order and you dodge the most common mistakes: chain lube on freshly polished paint, or wheel-cleaner mist on the chain you just cleaned.

Time-wise, a full S100 session runs about 45 minutes the first time, closer to 20 once you've got the routine. The chain alone is done in under 10 minutes if you keep cleaner and lube within reach. For everyday upkeep the waterless quick cleaner plus a chain top-up is often enough — that's the 5-minute version between two big care rounds.

Two details from day-to-day decide the result. First: always lay the chain lube onto the inner face of the lower chain run while the rear wheel turns slowly — centrifugal force then carries the lube outward into the rollers instead of just sitting it on top. Second: after spraying, wait around 10 minutes before you set off, so the solvent flashes off and the lube film grabs hold. Set off straight away and you fling half of it back off. Those two moves are what separate a clean chain job from a wasted one.

Solid midfield, with a clear standout on the chain

In the market the line is a dependable midfield with a genuine peak on chain care. That honest placement helps more than any promise.

The strength lies in the breadth and the predictability: one line that covers every part on the motorcycle, with formulas that have been stable for years. On the chain lubes S100 plays right up front — splitting cleaner and lube plus the four matched lube variants is better thought out than a lot of do-it-all options on the shelf. Next to pure car brands that carry a single motorcycle product on the side, this is a real system rather than a one-off article.

The limit is just as clear: S100 isn't a line for no-compromise paint correction. Deep scratches, holograms or multi-year ceramic coatings aren't this series' turf — the S100 scratch polish works individual fine scratches out by hand, but it's no substitute for a cutting polish in proper cut stages. If you want to bring your bike up to show level, add a specialist polish or coating brand. For everyday care right up to a proper detail, though, S100 is complete.

If you know the sister lines, you'll place S100 quickly: while Dr. Wack A1 covers car care and Dr. Wack P21S the high-end wheels, S100 is the answer for the motorcycle. The whole range sits bundled on the Dr. Wack main page.

Who S100 is worth starting with

Dr. Wack S100 pays off for anyone who looks after their own motorcycle and doesn't want to hunt down a separate brand for every part. The natural starting point is the chain.

Starting fresh? Kick off with the chain-care trio: S100 chain cleaner, chain brush and a matching chain lube. For most riders the transparent Dry Lube is the most fuss-free choice; for touring and high-mileage riders it's the High End. With these three products and under 10 minutes of work you've covered the most important maintenance point on the bike — and looked after properly, it often lasts twice as long as a neglected chain.

The second building block is the wash: Power Bike Shampoo for the big round, the waterless quick cleaner for in-between. If you're taking the helmet and visor along too, add the visor cleaner set. Step by step you build a full bike-care setup from one line, without having to buy everything at once up front.

Who S100 isn't the right system for: the detailer who corrects paint across several cutting stages and lays down multi-year ceramic sealants. For everyone else — from the commuter on the 125 to the tourer on a big machine — Dr. Wack S100 is a predictable all-in-one that grows with your own standards.
