An LED work light is a portable light that supplements ambient light at the workspace. Bright overhead lighting reaches the roof and hood, but hardly the wheel arch, door folds, rocker panels, or interior, because the car itself casts shadows. According to licht.de, work on the underside requires dedicated task lighting. An overview can be found on the Lighting page.
There is no fixed lumen count because illuminance in lux decreases with distance. As a guideline, workplace recommendations suggest a few hundred lux for working and around 1,000 lux for polishing and inspecting. A spotlight with several settings, such as 1,000 to 4,000 lumens for FLEX, can be adjusted according to distance and task.
No single design covers everything, which is why you should combine them. A floodlight on a tripod provides base light for one side of the vehicle, a handheld lamp on a hook illuminates the wheel arch and engine bay, and a headlamp follows your gaze inside the vehicle. Two light sources from different directions prevent harsh shadows. Spotlights can be found under LED Floodlights.
Generally, only within the same battery system. The 18-volt lights from FLEX run only with FLEX 18-volt battery packs and are supplied without a battery or charger. The construction spotlight also runs on 230-volt mains power. If you have a machine from a different manufacturer, you will need a FLEX 18-volt battery for the FLEX lights; alternatively, there are mains-powered lights or lights compatible with multiple battery systems.
Only if the manufacturer specifies an appropriate IP rating. FLEX states not to use its 18-volt lights in the rain and does not specify an IP rating; the headlamp has no water protection. For washing areas, licht.de recommends jet-water-protected lights. Therefore, place the light outside the spray area and aim it at the vehicle from a distance.
That depends on the battery and the brightness setting. FLEX cites 15.5 hours at 1,000 lumens for its cordless floodlight with an 8.0 Ah battery, while the headlamp shines for about 1.75 to 3.5 hours. The common measurement standard for lights counts the runtime until 10 percent of the initial brightness is reached. For long days, a second battery is worth having so it can charge while the first one is in use.
