Fatti aiutare a scegliere:
A paint inspection light is a directional light source that makes swirls, holograms, and scratches in the clear coat visible. When polishing, you use it after each step to check if the defects have disappeared before moving on to a finer polish. Under uniform overhead lighting, the same defects often remain invisible until the car is out in the sun.
Keep it flat to the surface so that the spot of light appears reflected in the paint, and direct your gaze just to the side of the reflection, not directly into it. Slowly guide the spot over the segment and move your head slightly. First, remove polish residues with inspection spray, otherwise oils will mask fine holograms. For the FLEX "SF 150-P" Swirl Finder, set the focus tightly towards 10 degrees.
There is no hard and fast rule. Cool white light above approximately 5,300 Kelvin defines scratches more harshly, while warm light below approximately 3,300 Kelvin makes holograms stand out better on some paints, and expert sources disagree on this. With a light featuring adjustable color temperature, you check the same segment in both settings and choose the one that reveals more on your paint.
If your light creates a small, hard spot in the paint, you can see coarse defects with it. If the focusing is missing, the scattering of fine scratches gets lost in the wide beam of light. The Swirl Finder by FLEX can be focused between 10 and 70 degrees while remaining hand-held. Any bright light will glare if held too close to the paint.
Overhead lighting and overcast skies illuminate the paint from all sides simultaneously, and the scattering of fine scratches gets lost within it. The sun is a single, very bright point source, and these defects appear in its reflection. A paint inspection light brings this directional light to your polishing station. It does not replace final inspection in daylight; more on this in the post Detecting Swirls in Paint.
For pure swirl and hologram detection, the penlight is sufficient. A floodlight is worth it if you are matching colors of components, checking a ceramic coating for high spots, or want to illuminate an entire door or hood evenly. For this, a high color rendering index and an adjustable color temperature—for example, adjustable from 2,500 to 6,500 Kelvin—are important.
