Manutenzione coating

(2 prodotti)
Coating maintenance encompasses everything an existing ceramic coating needs after application: protection of the fresh layer during the first few hours, a nourishing wash, the removal of iron and limescale, and, if necessary, a spray-on sacrificial SiO2 layer. Cleaning and protecting are separate steps, and the maintenance guidelines from the coating manufacturer take precedence over general tips.

  • Manutenzione coating

Frequently Asked Questions about Coating Maintenance

What is the best way to maintain a ceramic coating?

You maintain a ceramic coating with a plan that fits your usage: wash gently, regularly remove deposits like iron and limescale chemically, and apply a maintenance product according to the coating manufacturer's instructions. For GYEON, for example, this means using a maintenance product at least once a month and performing a decontamination every 3 months. You can find suitable shampoos under Car Shampoo.

How often should you wash a car with a ceramic coating?

Based on usage, not the calendar. GYEON recommends washing their coatings every 2 weeks or every 1,000 kilometers, while commercial guides suggest different intervals depending on the vehicle. The benchmark is to remove deposits before they set in. Wash the vehicle when it is cool and out of direct sunlight; according to GYEON, do not use an automatic car wash.

How long does a ceramic coating last and what extends its life?

There is no general figure: durability is a specification provided by the respective coating manufacturer and assumes that their maintenance guidelines are followed. It can be extended with gentle washing, regular decontamination, and a topper as a sacrificial layer. GYEON also ties the warranty to a service every 24 months. You can compare coatings in the Ceramic Coatings collection.

Why is my ceramic coating no longer beading, is it gone?

Often, it is not. Multiple professional sources attribute diminishing beading primarily to deposits: road film, iron particles, and limescale cover the layer. Only after a wash and decontamination will a water test show whether the ceramic is still working. If the water remains flat on the surface, a topper like GYEON Q²M Cure (REDEFINED) is worth using within the expected durability period; near the end of its life, a new coating is generally preferred.

What is the difference between a topper, booster, and top coat?

Topper and booster mean the same thing: an SiO2 spray that sits as a thin sacrificial layer on the coating, which is sprayed on and buffed off, wearing down before the base layer. A top coat, on the other hand, is a distinct top layer applied over a dedicated base or hybrid layer, which must cure just like a coating. You can see the selection under Top Coats for Ceramic Coatings.

How do I protect a freshly coated car in the first few hours?

With a post-coating protection product like CarPro "Release" Post-Coating Protection: sprayed on at least 4 hours after coating, it provides short-term protection against moisture and insects. The first shampoo wash largely removes it. All other details are determined by the manufacturer of your coating regarding curing time; for example, GYEON advises against using aggressive chemicals for the first 14 days.

Refreshing ceramic coating in the right order

    1. Wash while cool and in the shade. Wash the vehicle by hand when the paint is cool and out of direct sunlight, using a shampoo approved by your coating manufacturer. Avoid car washes if your coating manufacturer excludes them; GYEON does so.
    2. Chemically remove iron. Spray an iron remover onto the cool, damp paint, do not let it dry, and rinse thoroughly.
    3. Dissolve limescale if necessary. In case of limescale deposits, use an acidic maintenance shampoo designed for this purpose, provided your coating manufacturer allows it.
    4. Dry without pressure. Dry the paint with a clean drying towel without applying pressure, and use separate towels for paint and rims.
    5. Perform a water test. Pour a splash of water over the hood or roof. If round beads form or a closed film runs off, the layer is working. Only apply products as specified in your coating's maintenance plan.
    6. Top up only when necessary. If wet areas remain flat and the coating is still within its service life, spray a topper onto the clean, dry paint according to its instructions, distribute with a microfiber cloth, and buff off with a second cloth.
