What is the Koch-Chemie Glass Cleaner "Gc"? A ready-to-use, alcohol-free car glass cleaner that pulls oil, grease, bug splatter and nicotine film off the glass streak-free, inside and out and on tinted windows too. Not meant as washer fluid for your reservoir and not as an anti-fog coating.
Koch-Chemie Glass Cleaner "Gc" is a ready-to-use glass cleaner from Koch-Chemie for car windows and every smooth surface, and it works without alcohol and without ammonia. If you want a car glass cleaner, you really want one thing: no streaks. That is exactly what the gloss-and-glide additive is for. It cuts the friction of the microfibre on the glass, so the cloth glides instead of dragging, and the fine streaks you get on the dry wipe just don't show up.

More than 5 verified customer reviews on Trusted Shops confirm the streak-free result in daily use.
Detailing1's tip from the shop: Streaks almost never come from the cleaner, they come from technique. We often get messages like "the glass cleaner leaves streaks". Usually the wiping happened on a warm pane in the sun, where the film flashes off before the cloth lifts it. Work on a cold pane in the shade and go by the two-cloth rule: lift the dirt with 1 damp cloth, then buff dry in straight passes with a dry glass cloth. More product doesn't clean better, it tends to leave edges.
You spray the Glass Cleaner "Gc" on neat from 20 to 30 cm onto the cold, shaded pane and pull it off with a dry microfibre glass cloth in straight passes. That way no film of water is left standing to flash off.
Outside, the cleaner lifts bug splatter, pollen and the greasy road film. With a baked-on bug front, let the cleaner soak for about 30 seconds and only then pull it off, rather than scrubbing harder. That goes easy on the glass and on the wiper blades.
Inside, it's about the greasy film off-gassing from the dash and about nicotine. If you want to clean your car windows from the inside, spray sparingly onto the cloth rather than straight onto the glass, so no mist drifts onto a display or a vent. With a microfibre glass cloth especially, the cloth quality decides whether the loosened dirt gets picked up or just smeared around.
The second, bone-dry pass over the finished pane lifts the last haze out. That's exactly the step most people skip, and that's exactly where you get the streaks you spot later in backlight. A good glide additive makes the difference here between any old cleaner and a real car glass cleaner.
Why the cold pane? The additive only works its glide as long as the film is liquid. On hot glass the water flashes off too fast, the cleaner grabs and the cloth just pushes the dirt around. In the shade or early in the morning you've got that window of time. Wash new microfibre cloths once without softener before they ever touch glass too, otherwise they carry sizing onto it that pulls streaks all by itself.

The Gc cleans glass, it doesn't seal it and it doesn't belong in the washer reservoir. As a pure spray-and-wipe cleaner it replaces neither the antifreeze washer fluid in the reservoir nor a hydrophobic glass sealant for the beading effect.
With heavily baked-on residue, 1 pass isn't always enough. One verified customer puts it well: with stubborn dirt you need 2 to 3 passes rather than scrubbing under pressure. A short soak and another pull is gentler and quicker in the end, because you avoid scratches you'd have to polish out later.
Anti-fog protection is something the Gc deliberately leaves out. It gets you clean, clear glass, but against fogging from the inside only an anti-fog treatment helps for the long run. Clean glass does fog up far more evenly though, and so far less of a bother than a greasy film.
Beyond the car the Gc cleans mirrors, interior and exterior, motorcycle visors, instrument glass and smooth surfaces around the house like tiles or stainless steel. The only place to be careful is on matte anti-glare nav and instrument displays: there you always spray onto the cloth and work with little pressure, so the coating doesn't suffer. On clear glass and glossy plastic headlights it works with no restrictions.
In a smoker's car a tacky nicotine film settles on the inside glass, scattering the light and making everything look yellowed. Here you work in 2 layers: lift and roughly take it off first, then buff dry with a fresh cloth. After that first thorough clean a normal pass later is enough to keep the view clear.
If you want to work ready-to-use and stay film- and tint-safe, the Gc is the right call. If instead you want an economical concentrate to dilute yourself with a Daimler factory approval, the glass cleaner concentrate is the fitting alternative.
| Decision | Glass Cleaner "Gc" | Glas Star "Gla" |
|---|---|---|
| Form | ready to use, spray and wipe | concentrate, dilute yourself |
| Base | alcohol-free, ammonia-free | alcohol-based |
| Strength | film- and tint-safe, ready straight away | Daimler factory approval, very economical |
| Who for | clear view with no mixing | heavy users who want to drop the price per litre |

A good car glass cleaner has to work inside and out, and that's exactly what makes the Gc the everyday cleaner for anyone who wants clear glass fast with no mixing. The commuter grabs the 1-litre bottle, the detailer the 10 or 20-litre container.
Glass cleaners are in highest demand in spring: pollen and bug season drives demand about 40 percent over the quiet winter level. If you've got a bottle in the boot now, you clean the windscreen on the road instead of driving into the low sun with a pollen film and streaks.
Day-to-day the difference shows in the details: no streaks in backlight, no haze on the inside glass that turns oncoming headlights into stars at night. If you drive a lot with the sun low or in the dark, you notice a streak-free pane straight away.
The Gc is fuss-free on cost: 1 litre ready-to-use lasts many weeks of commuter life depending on how much you spray, and decanting the 10-litre container into a spray bottle costs you far less per litre. Store the cleaner frost-free and the spray function stays reliable across the whole shelf life. An opened bottle in the car survives the summer heat better if it isn't left baking in full sun all the time.
How often you clean depends on your driving: if you commute daily, keep the windscreen clear inside about every 2 weeks and outside as needed with pollen or bugs. High-mileage drivers and detailers with several cars a day get the most out of the big container and a spray bottle fixed to the trolley. That turns reaching for the car glass cleaner into routine rather than the exception.
The one trick hardly anyone does and that stops most streaks: clean the inside first, then the outside, and pull horizontally inside, vertically outside. If a streak is left after cleaning, the direction tells you straight away whether it's on the inside or the outside, and you only fix it there. That saves you the third pass and the guessing. You'll find the matching workflow and more products in the glass cleaner category.

Not sure about Koch-Chemie Glass Cleaner "Gc" Glass Cleaner? Get it explained:
Glass Cleaner "Gc" is a ready-to-use, alcohol- and ammonia-free glass cleaner for cars and all smooth surfaces. A gloss and smoothness additive reduces cloth friction and ensures streak-free visibility, both inside and out. It removes oil, grease, insects, and nicotine film.
Spray undiluted onto a cold, shaded window, loosen with a damp cloth, and buff in straight strokes with a second dry glass cloth. One spray per window half is sufficient. Streaks are almost always caused by wiping in the sun, not by the product.
Gc is ready-to-use and alcohol-free, meaning it is immediately ready for use and safe for tinted windows. The glass cleaner concentrate "Gla" is alcohol-based with Daimler approval and is diluted by the user, which lowers the price per liter.
Yes. Because it contains no alcohol or ammonia, it does not attack tinting films or coatings. For matte anti-reflective navigation and speedometer displays, spray onto the cloth instead of the glass and work with light pressure.
No. Gc is a spray-and-wipe cleaner, not an additive for the windshield washer system. It does not replace antifreeze washer fluid or a glass sealant. For the washer fluid, use a suitable system cleaner; for water repellency, use a sealant.
1 liter ready-to-use lasts for many weeks of daily commuting, as only one spray is needed per window. Frequent drivers and detailers opt for the 10, 20, or 200-liter containers and refill a spray bottle, which significantly reduces the price per liter.
Spray the Glass Cleaner "Gc" undiluted from a distance of about 20 to 30 cm onto the cold, shaded glass. On hot glass in the sun, the film will dry before the cloth can wipe it off — this is the most common cause of streaks.
Loosen the dirt with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and follow up with a second, dry glass cloth using straight strokes. One spray per half of the pane is sufficient; using more product is more likely to leave residue.
For the inside of the windshield, spray sparingly onto the cloth instead of directly onto the glass to prevent mist from getting onto the display or vents. For dried-on insects on the outside, let soak for about 30 seconds and remove in 2 to 3 passes instead of scrubbing.
Notes: Gc cleans glass, it does not seal it, and it should not be used in the windshield washer reservoir. Alcohol- and ammonia-free, making it safe for tinted windows and films; for matte anti-reflective displays, spray onto the cloth and apply minimal pressure. Store frost-free; once opened, do not leave in direct sunlight in the car for extended periods.
