The versatile Medium pad for one-step polishing
What is the ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Medium? A trapezoidal machine polishing pad made of open-pore thermo foam with hook-and-loop backing, in the medium orange grade. It carries the polish and controls the cut through its hardness. It doesn't cut on its own and is no substitute for picking a harder pad for deep scratches.
The ZviZZer polishing pad Medium is a thermo foam pad from ZviZZer in the Trapez shape, marked orange — the medium hardness — in the five-step colour system. Its foam is reticulated, meaning open-cell: heat-treated and vacuum-processed so the cell walls are gone. This heat-stable structure barely loses cut while polishing and works more evenly than a standard pad. Made in Germany.
- One hardness for most jobs. Orange is the middle of five grades and the all-rounder for one-step polishing and light to medium correction. If you're starting with one pad, start here — a harder red pad gives more cut, a softer yellow one more finish with the same polish.
- Thermo foam lasts 5 to 6 times longer. The reticulated structure lets heat escape and keeps its cut through the whole polishing pass. ZviZZer quotes about 5 to 6 times the lifespan of conventional pads for the Thermo series — so one pad sees you through plenty of details rather than a handful.
- Five sizes from 50 to 165 millimetres. The big 140 and 165 mm pads cover bonnets, doors and roofs fast; the small 50, 70 and 90 mm ones get into bumpers, mirrors and tight radii. All run on rotary and DA, and the backing plate has to be smaller than the pad diameter.
Day-to-day from Detailing1: The most common mistake is the wrong pad-and-polish combo. Too hard a pad scratches with a finishing polish, too soft a pad builds no cut, and both heat up the paint. Always match the pad to the polish: the orange Medium goes with a one-step polish like the MC 3000. Knock out the polish dust after two or three sections, otherwise a clogged pad just smears. That's how we got a clean result in a single pass on a swirled bonnet.
Polish on the pad, pad to suit the polish
The Medium pad takes a pea-sized amount of polish, spreads it at low speed and then works it in under medium pressure until the polish film turns clear. The pad's hardness decides how much cut actually reaches the paint.
Choose the size by panel: a 140 or 165 mm pad for bonnets and doors, a 50 to 90 mm pad for bumpers, pillars and mirrors. In colour and function, the orange Medium pairs with the MC 3000 one-step polish — same grade, same colour. You'll find every size in our polishing pads.
Keep the pad clean and cool. After two or three sections, knock out the polish dust or switch to a fresh pad, because a saturated pad won't build gloss any more. Pick a hook-and-loop backing plate one size smaller than the pad, otherwise the edge rubs and the foam overheats.
Medium correction yes, heavy cut no
The orange Medium covers light to medium defects: dull, swirled paint that needs gloss and a one-step correction but no heavy cutting. That's exactly what the medium hardness is made for.
For deep scratches you can clearly feel with a fingernail, or heavy holograms, a medium foam won't cut it. Then the route is a harder red Hard pad or a wool pad with a compound, followed by a finer pad to finish. Medium foam doesn't replace a hard cut.
At the other end is that last per cent of finish: if a flawless show-car mirror is the goal, you follow the one-step stage with a softer pad. If your paint has medium wear, go for this Medium pad — if you want that last bit of depth, go for the softer Soft pad in yellow. On very soft clear coats you'd work a grade softer anyway.
For anyone who wants one pad, not ten
The Medium pad is the right call if you want to cover most paint conditions with a manageable pad line-up and don't want to stack a separate pad for every level of defect. Orange is the starting point; you only go harder or softer when you need to.
It's less suited to two specialist jobs: heavy correction on neglected paint, where a wool pad does the initial cutting, and the no-compromise concours finish, where an Ultra Soft pad runs last. If you regularly work at both extremes, add the graded ZviZZer system from blue to green.
The one thing most people underestimate: a thermo foam pad is a consumable, but a well-looked-after one lasts many times longer. Wash it out by hand in lukewarm water or with pad cleaner after use and let it air-dry — never on the radiator or with a heat gun, or the reticulated foam hardens. That way the quoted 5 to 6 times lifespan actually turns into a long-lasting pad in real life, not a throwaway.

What is the ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Medium?
The Trapez Pad Medium is a machine polishing pad made of open-pore thermo foam with hook-and-loop backing, in the medium orange grade. It carries the polish and controls the cut through its hardness. The heat-stable structure barely loses cut while polishing and lasts about 5 to 6 times longer than a standard pad.
Which polish should I use with the orange Medium pad?
Orange is the medium hardness and the all-rounder for one-step polishes and light to medium correction. Colour-wise it pairs with the MC 3000 Medium Cut. Key point: always match the pad to the polish, or the friction overheats the paint. A harder pad gives more cut, a softer one more finish.
What's the difference between the Trapez Pad and the Allrounder Pad?
Both are made of open-cell thermo foam in medium orange. The Trapez Pad is pure foam, lighter, and thanks to its trapezoid shape works right up to edges and contours. The Allrounder Pad adds a rubber interlayer for more cushioning and flatter contact on large panels. If you want one pad, take the Trapez Medium.
What size do I need, and does every backing plate fit?
Size depends on the panel: 140 or 165 mm for bonnets, doors and roofs, 50 to 90 mm for bumpers, mirrors and tight radii. All five sizes run on rotary and DA. The hook-and-loop backing plate has to be one size smaller than the pad diameter, otherwise the edge rubs.
Can you wash the polishing pad, and how often should you replace it?
Yes. After use, wash it out by hand in lukewarm water or with pad cleaner and let it air-dry — never with a heat gun or on the radiator, or the thermo foam hardens. While polishing, knock out the dust after two or three sections. Replace it when it tears, the hook-and-loop gives up or the foam goes hard.
Is the Medium pad enough for deep scratches?
No. Deep scratches you can feel with a fingernail, or heavy holograms, need a harder red Hard pad or a wool pad with a compound. For that last per cent of finish, follow up with a softer Soft pad in yellow. Medium covers the middle ground.

How to use the ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Medium
From the right pad-and-polish combo to an even gloss
Use the orange Medium pad with a matching polish — as the medium hardness, it belongs with one-step polishing and light to medium correction. A pad that doesn't suit the polish either scratches or builds no gloss, and it heats up the paint.
Put a pea-sized amount of polish on the pad, spread it over the panel at low speed, then work it in under medium pressure until the polish film turns clear. Work in sections of about 40 by 40 centimetres. The MC 3000 one-step polish is colour-matched to this pad.
Choose the size by panel: a 140 or 165 mm pad for large areas, a 50 to 90 mm pad for bumpers, mirrors and tight spots. Pick a hook-and-loop backing plate one size smaller than the pad diameter so the edge doesn't rub and the foam doesn't overheat. More grades and sizes are in our polishing pads.
Keep the pad clean while you work: knock out the polish dust after two or three sections or switch to a fresh pad, because a saturated pad just smears. If you want that last bit of depth, finish up with a softer Soft pad in yellow.
Notes: The Medium pad covers light to medium defects. Deep scratches and heavy holograms need a harder red pad or a wool pad with a compound. After use, wash the pad out by hand in lukewarm water or with pad cleaner and let it air-dry — never with a heat gun or on the radiator, or the reticulated thermo foam hardens. Store fully dry and flat. Replace it if it tears, the hook-and-loop weakens or the foam has gone hard.
