What is the ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Hard? A hard, trapezoidal polishing pad made of open-cell thermo-foam with a hook-and-loop backing, marked in red in the five-stage color system. It provides powerful cut for deep scratches and weathered paint. It is not a finishing pad and is not for wax application or very soft clear coats.
The ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Hard is a hard polishing pad from ZviZZer made of open-cell thermo-foam, classified as red in the five-stage color system. The foam is thermally gassed and vacuumed before production, which ruptures the cell membranes and allows the pad to dissipate heat better. This keeps the hardness stable under load, and the red grade provides powerful abrasion instead of softening under frictional heat and losing cut.
Practical tip from Detailing1: In our experience, the most common mistake is using the wrong pad for the polish. Anyone who combines a hard red pad with a finish polish or forces a soft pad to do the cutting generates frictional heat without abrasion — the paint gets hot and holograms remain instead of correction. Keep the color of the pad and polish in the same stage, i.e., red hard pad for red cut polish. And choose a backing plate 5 to 10 millimeters smaller than the pad, otherwise the edge will tear.
Attach the Thermo Trapez Pad Hard centered onto the backing plate, apply the cut polish directly to the pad, and work the surface in overlapping passes of about 40 by 40 centimeters.
A prerequisite is a clean surface: washed, decontaminated, and taped off. Residues of tar or industrial fallout would otherwise settle into the open-cell pad and cause new scratches. A suitable powerful cut polish in terms of color is the HC 4000 Heavy Cut in red, which belongs to the hardness grade of this pad.
The pad runs on both random orbital and rotary polishers. Keep it clean: knock out the polishing dust after two to three passes or change the pad, because a clogged pad just smears and no longer builds cut. For larger areas, use the Ø 140 or Ø 165 millimeter pads; for bumpers and mirrors, use the small 50 to 90 millimeter pads.
The hard red pad is built for abrasion. It corrects deep scratches and weathered paint, but is not suitable for the finish stage or for wax application.
Its core area is heavy correction: hard, neglected paint where you have to bring back the shine with a cut polish first. In our practice on-site in Nordhorn, the red pad is the grade we use on a weathered front hood before even thinking about a finish. With cut polish, a light haze remains afterward — this is intentional and is polished out later.
The boundaries are clear. If dealing with deep scratches and hard paint, use the Hard Pad in red with a cut polish. If dealing with only light swirls and holograms, go one stage softer with the Medium Pad in orange, which abrades less. On very soft Japanese clear coats, the hard pad with cut polish quickly creates deep holograms — start one stage milder there.
The Thermo Trapez Pad Hard is the right choice if you are removing actual paint defects with a machine and want a pad that stays hard under heat and lasts through multiple detailing jobs.
It is less suitable for quick weekend maintenance and for everything from the finish stage onwards — the softer colors are intended for that. Those who correct regularly view the pad as a system: across the polishing pad range, you control the abrasive power via the color, from Ultra Hard in blue to Ultra Soft in green, and always keep the pad and polish in the same stage.
One point that almost no one pays attention to: a new pad absorbs more polish in the first pass than it does later because the dry foam soaks it up. Therefore, apply a little more at the beginning and check after the first area; otherwise, you will work the start dry and wonder about the lack of cut, when in reality it was just that the pad had not yet been "broken in."
Dubbi su ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad "Hard" pad in schiuma termica (Rosso)? Fatti spiegare:
The Thermo Trapez Pad Hard is a firm, trapezoidal polishing pad made of open-cell thermo-foam with a hook-and-loop backing, classified in the color system as red. The vacuum-treated foam dissipates heat and retains its firmness under load, allowing the red level to provide a powerful cut for deep scratches and weathered paint.
The pad and polish should belong to the same color level. The red Hard Pad is paired with a powerful cut polish like the HC 4000 Heavy Cut in red. If that is not enough, go one level harder with blue; for only light swirls, go one level softer with orange.
The firmness controls the cutting power. A hard pad like the red one provides a strong cut for deep scratches and weathered paint, while a soft pad works more finely for finishing and wax. In the five-level system, this ranges from Ultra Hard in blue to Ultra Soft in green.
Yes. The Thermo Trapez Pad Hard works on both dual-action and rotary machines and is attached to the backing plate via hook-and-loop. Choose a backing plate that is 5 to 10 millimeters smaller than the pad, otherwise the soft edge will tear under load and heat.
A hard pad with a finish polish or a soft pad used for cutting generates frictional heat without material removal. The paint gets hot, the polish dries out, and holograms remain instead of correction. Keep the pad and polish in the same color level and do not work the pad until it is dry.
Wash it out after use with a pad cleaner, gently squeeze it out, and let it air dry flat. With proper care, the thermo-foam lasts 5 to 7 times longer than conventional foam because it does not soften under heat. Tap out a clogged pad in between uses, otherwise it will just smear.
Before polishing, the paint must be clean: washed, decontaminated, and masked off. Otherwise, tar or surface rust will settle into the open-cell foam and cause new scratches.
Center the pad on the appropriate backing plate, choosing a backing plate 5 to 10 millimeters smaller than the pad so the edge does not tear under load. Apply the cut polish directly to the pad—use a little more on a new pad, as the dry foam will absorb the initial dose.
Work the surface in sections of about 40 by 40 centimeters using either a dual-action or rotary polisher. After two or three passes, knock out the polishing dust or change the pad, as a clogged pad will smear and stop providing a cut. For large areas, use the 140 mm or 165 mm diameter pads; for bumpers and edges, use the small 50 to 90 mm pads.
The color-matched cut polish for this pad's hardness level is the HC 4000 Heavy Cut in red. After the cut, a slight haze will remain—you can polish this away with a softer grade and a finish polish.
Notes: The hard red pad is designed for material removal, not for finishing or applying wax—the softer colors, Soft and Ultra Soft, are intended for that. On very soft Japanese clear coats, it can quickly create deep holograms when used with cut polish; in such cases, start one grade milder with the Medium pad in orange. Always keep the pad and polish in the same color grade, otherwise friction will overheat the paint. After use, wash with pad cleaner, squeeze out, and let air dry flat; the thermo-foam will last 5 to 7 times longer than conventional foam.
