What is the ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Ultra Hard? A trapezoidal polishing pad made of open-cell thermo-foam with a hook-and-loop backing, in the hardest grade, blue. It delivers the highest level of cut of the five hardness levels and is intended for heavy paint correction with a coarse rubbing compound. It is not a finishing pad and not an applicator for wax.
The ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad Ultra Hard is a trapezoidal polishing pad from ZviZZer made of open-cell thermo-foam that attaches via hook-and-loop to the backing plate of the polishing machine. The color blue marks the hardest of the five grades and thus the highest cut. The thermo-foam dissipates frictional heat, remains dimensionally stable, and keeps its abrasive power constant throughout the entire polishing process.
Pro tip from Detailing1: The most common mistake with a hard pad is too much pressure. Those who force the Ultra Hard onto the paint crush the foam, generate heat, and create holograms in the clear coat instead of cutting it cleanly. Let the weight of the machine do the work and just guide it. Cleaning during work is just as important. On a scratched black hood, our pad became clogged with polishing dust after two passes and just smeared until we knocked it out.
Press the Ultra Hard onto the center of the hook-and-loop backing plate, apply a small amount of rubbing compound, distribute it at low speed, and then work it in with medium pressure.
Apply the polish in pea-to-hazelnut-sized amounts and dab it onto the surface while the machine is stopped so nothing sprays. Distribute it at about 1,000 RPM and then increase to up to 1,800 RPM until the polish film becomes clear. Work in sections of about 40 by 40 centimeters and keep the pad flat on the paint, not tilted over the edge.
The Ultra Hard is color-coordinated with the PC 5000 Pre Cut; the two form the coarsest correction stage. Knock the pad out or brush it off after two to three sections; a clogged pad no longer cuts. On weathered 2026 paint, we needed one pass with the hard combination, whereas a medium pad ran two cycles without visible progress.
The Ultra Hard is made for heavy paint correction and, due to its design, leaves a fine sanding pattern that you must polish out with softer pads before the paint achieves a mirror finish.
Its strength is initial cut: deep scratches, heavy holograms, and sanding marks after wet sanding that require real bite. As the hardest pad in the series, it cuts where a medium or soft pad only polishes without reaching the defect.
The limits are clear. A hard pad is not for light swirls on well-maintained paint; you are removing clear coat unnecessarily, and a medium pad is sufficient. It is also not a finishing pad or an applicator for wax or sealant; it is far too coarse for that. And it comes at the cost of material: every cut removes some of the approximately 40 to 50 micrometer thin clear coat; caution is mandatory on edges and thin paint.
When choosing a pad, the "if-then" logic applies. If you need deep defect removal and maximum cut, then use the Ultra Hard with a coarse polish. If less cut and more finish are required, then a softer hard pad in red with the next finer polish, and then step-by-step softer.
The Ultra Hard is worth it for those who really want to correct heavily scratched or weathered paint and are prepared to continue working in finer stages afterward.
Because the abrasive power is controlled via the pad hardness, the blue pad is the starting point of a graduated system: you begin hard and coarse and move from red, orange, and yellow to green as you get finer. The five sizes from Ø 50 to 165 mm allow you to cover surfaces accordingly: large pads for hoods and roofs, small ones for mirrors, bumpers, and tight contours. You can find the right pad in our polishing pads and sanding sponges.
The Ultra Hard is less suitable for beginners polishing their first car, a well-maintained daily driver. In that case, the combination of the hardest pad and coarsest polish is too sharp; a medium pad is more forgiving and completely sufficient for daily wear and tear.
One point that most underestimate: a thermo-pad benefits from care during work, not just afterward. Anyone who knocks it out every few minutes and washes it out after polishing and lets it air-dry lying down, instead of crumpling it up while damp, will maintain the same constant cut over many detailing jobs instead of holding a gummed-up pad in their hand after just one car.
Dubbi su ZviZZer Thermo Trapez Pad "Ultra Hard" pad in schiuma termica (Blu)? Fatti spiegare:
The Ultra Hard is a trapezoidal polishing pad made of open-cell thermo foam with a Velcro backing, in the hardest blue grade. It provides the highest level of cut among the five ZviZZer hardness levels and is designed for heavy machine correction with a coarse abrasive polish. The thermo foam maintains a constant cut instead of softening under heat.
In the ZviZZer color system, blue corresponds to the coarsest polish, the PC 5000 Pre Cut. Pad hardness and polish grade should match: hard pad with coarse polish for maximum cut. A softer red pad matches the finer HC 4000, while an orange one matches the MC 3000.
The blue Ultra Hard is the firmest pad and provides the most cut, while the red Hard pad is one level softer and cuts slightly more gently. Use blue for deep defects and coarse sanding, and red for strong but slightly lower correction, or as the next, finer step.
The size depends on the surface area. Large pads with a diameter of 140 or 165 mm are for hoods, roofs, and doors; small ones with a diameter of 50 or 70 mm are for mirrors, bumpers, and tight contours. The pad should match your machine's backing plate. In total, there are five sizes ranging from 50 to 165 mm in diameter.
Yes. The most common mistake is applying too much pressure, which compresses the foam, generates heat, and creates holograms. Let the machine do the work and just guide it. Furthermore, the Ultra Hard is not a finishing pad: it leaves behind a sanding mark that you must polish out afterwards using softer pads.
Brush out or blow off the pad every two to three sections during work to prevent clogging. After use, wash it out with lukewarm water or pad cleaner, squeeze it out well, and let it air dry laying flat. Do not bend or dry it with high heat, or the foam and Velcro may be damaged. This allows a thermo pad to last significantly longer.
Before polishing, the paintwork must be washed, decontaminated, and masked. Press the Ultra Hard pad centrally onto the velcro backing plate so that it runs smoothly and does not wobble.
Apply a pea-to-hazelnut-sized amount of PC 5000 Pre Cut to the pad and dab it onto the surface with the machine switched off. Spread the polish at approximately 1,000 RPM and then work it in at up to 1,800 RPM with medium pressure until the polishing film becomes clear.
Work in sections of approximately 40 by 40 centimeters and keep the pad flat on the paint. Tap it out or brush it off after every two to three passes; a clogged pad will only smear and will no longer provide any cut. Never press with force; let the weight of the machine do the work.
The Ultra Hard is the first, coarsest step. Afterward, proceed in finer stages, from the Hard Pad in red through orange and yellow to the green finishing pad, until the paint has a mirror finish.
Notes: The Ultra Hard is the hardest pad in the series and is intended exclusively for heavy machine correction, not for finishing, wax application, or hand application. By design, it leaves behind sanding marks that must be removed afterwards with softer pads. Every sanding step removes some of the approximately 40 to 50 micrometer thin clear coat; work carefully on edges and thin paint. Wash out after use, let air dry lying flat, and do not fold, so that the foam and velcro last a long time.
