Leather Fresh opaco di COLOURLOCK

Leather Fresh opaco di COLOURLOCK

(1 prodotti)
COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh Matt is the dull neutral base of the dye range: color-neutral, pigment-free, and with a built-in matting agent that restores the original factory silk-matt finish on pigmented smooth leather instead of adding shine. COLOURLOCK "Leather Fresh" (Dull / Neutral) is applied by dabbing in thin layers and dried in between; when mixed with 20 to 30 percent Leather Colour, it creates a custom matte shade.

  • Shine on leather is wear and tear and Leather Fresh matt takes it back

What is Leather Fresh matt from COLOURLOCK? The dull, pigment-free neutral base of the dyeing range: It refreshes dull and greasy-looking smooth leather without affecting the color shade and restores the silk-matt gloss level from the factory. Mixed with Leather Colour, the same bottle becomes a custom matte tint.

Leather Fresh matt from COLOURLOCK is the dull neutral base of the dyeing range — color-neutral, pigment-free, with a built-in matting agent. COLOURLOCK "Leather Fresh" (Dull / Neutral) is applied in thin layers by dabbing onto degreased, pigmented smooth leather and allowed to dry completely between applications. Used pure, the base evens out shiny spots and dull areas. When mixed with 20 to 30 percent Leather Colour, it becomes a custom matte tint for seat bolsters, steering wheels, and entry areas.

    • Matte stays matte because no pigment is involved. The base does not contain any color pigment, only the binder film and the matting agent. This means for you: You correct the gloss level without risking the color shade. The tone remains exactly as it was installed by the factory, even if you misjudge the application.
    • It is a base, not just a finish. Applied pure, it removes shine and visually saturates dull zones. When mixed with 20 to 30 percent Leather Colour, the same bottle becomes your own matte leather dye. One bottle thus covers both cases: pure gloss adjustment and tinted refreshing.
    • Two containers for two jobs. The 100 ml is sufficient for a steering wheel rim, seat bolster, or armrest without having an opened bottle age on the shelf. The 1000 ml / 1 liter size is for complete seat systems and for everyone who works from seam to seam instead of doing spot repairs.

Practical tip from Detailing1: The most common mistake is to judge the gloss level while it is wet. We regularly receive inquiries about the second layer with the same observation: The surface now shines more than before. At that moment, that is actually true — the fresh application stands as a wet film and reflects like any wet surface. It only becomes matte while drying when the matting particles settle on top. Anyone who applies more now to force more matte effect builds up a thick layer, and a thick layer becomes patchy instead of matte. Therefore: apply thinly, dry with a hair dryer, check at a shallow angle. Only then do you apply the next layer.

Seat surfaces shine because leather becomes smooth under pressure

The greasy shine on the driver's seat and steering wheel rim is not a success of care, but wear and tear — and it is not sitting on the leather, but in the leather.

Pigmented smooth leather has a finish, i.e., the paint-like color and protective layer with its fine grain. This grain scatters incident light in all directions, and that is exactly what the eye perceives as matte. Pressure, friction, and skin oils press the grain flat over the years and fill its valleys. The surface becomes smoother, the light is no longer scattered but reflected in a directed way, like a mirror. This means for you: The seat looks greasy even though it is clean.

This is why the shine is strongest where the most activity occurs. The seat center and side bolster on the driver's side, the entry edge, the steering wheel rim at ten and two o'clock, the armrest on the center console. Meanwhile, the back seat in the same vehicle still shows the factory look, even though it has been exposed to the same sun and air. The difference is mechanical, not chemical.

This also explains why cleaning alone does not permanently resolve the shine. A strong leather cleaner from COLOURLOCK removes the grease and care film, and for a few days, the surface looks calm again. Then the shine returns because the flattened grain is still flattened. This is exactly where cleaning ends and refreshing begins: what the surface has lost must be visually replaced.

The dull base sets the gloss level before color comes

At COLOURLOCK, the gloss level is not a property of the color, but a separate decision right at the beginning of the process.

Leather Fresh is available as a dull and a glossy neutral base, both without pigment. The difference lies solely in the matting agent: finest matting particles that stand on the surface in the dried film and roughen it microscopically. The light no longer hits a closed plane, but countless tiny flanks, and is scattered instead of mirrored — the same principle that the grain handled from the factory. Translated: You get the matte look back without sanding anything off.

Used pure, the dull base is therefore a pure visual product. It pulls shiny spots and dull zones to a common level, visually saturates abraded areas, and makes transitions after repairs disappear because it cannot create a pigment edge. Those who have also lost color mix in 20 to 30 percent from the Leather Dyes from COLOURLOCK and have thus mixed their own matte tint instead of looking for a pre-mixed shade.

The choice of base is therefore not a matter of taste. If your factory leather is finished with a gloss, as many older interiors and a large portion of furniture leathers are, the dull base is the wrong tool and the glossy neutral base from COLOURLOCK is the right one. Both are available alongside each other one level higher under Leather Fresh Neutral Bases from COLOURLOCK, together with the standard variant without a specified gloss level.

The matte degree is set at three points in the setup

Matte is not created at one point, but at three. Anyone who confuses these points gets a grey haze instead of the factory look.

The first point is the base itself. Leather Fresh dull sets the basic mood of the surface and is sufficient for the majority of cases in the interior.

The second point is the additive. The matting additive from COLOURLOCK goes into the leather dye with up to five percent or into the Top Coat with up to three percent, and with that, you can get significantly matter than the matte Top Coat alone achieves. The manufacturer expressly recommends the route via the dye because the additive in the Top Coat can cause a grey haze on dark leathers.

The third point is the final seal. The matte Top Coat from COLOURLOCK lies as a wear layer over the finished setup and holds the set gloss level, instead of changing it. Without this layer, your work stands unprotected exactly where the friction starts again — on the seat center, bolster, and entry area.

It is reassuring that the path remains open in both directions. If a mixture turns out too matte, up to one-tenth high-gloss Top Coat noticeably raises the shine again. Practically, this means: As long as the dye is liquid, you can readjust, and a test application on a scrap piece costs five minutes instead of an entire seat surface.

What we observe again and again at Detailing1: The matting additive often ends up in orders where it is not needed at all. Those who only want to even out a greasy steering wheel rim get by with the dull base pure.

Dabbing beats brushing and intermediate drying determines the surface

The base is chemically uncritical but demanding in terms of hand movement. This is where it is decided whether the surface becomes uniform or cloudy.

The procedure is set. First clean, then remove the rest of the skin oils, care residues, and silicone film with the degreaser from COLOURLOCK, because no film binds to grease. Rough or roughened areas are smoothed with the leather sanding pad, differently colored seams are masked off. Then shake the bottle and apply the base by dabbing or in small circular movements, always from seam to seam instead of up to an imaginary boundary in the middle of the surface. Between the layers, you dry thoroughly with a hair dryer, and several thin applications beat one thick one every time.

The reason for the seam as a boundary is banal and yet is rarely followed. An edge in the middle of the seat surface shows up as a fine line in grazing light as soon as the sun falls flat into the car. The seam is the only line where the eye expects an edge anyway — that is where the transition disappears by itself.

Expect more time for the first time than the effort might suggest. A steering wheel rim costs you a good half hour with cleaning, degreasing, two thin layers, and drying breaks; with the second seat bolster, every move is automatic and it takes half the time. Do not judge anything before it is completely dry — the tone and gloss level only assume their final state when dry.

From the Detailing1 daily routine: Degreasing is the step that is most frequently skipped, and the only one that you cannot catch up on later without removing the fresh layer again.

The dull base replaces neither pigment nor aniline product

Leather Fresh dull is a visual and refreshing product with sharply defined boundaries. You should know four limits before you order.

The first is the substrate. The base belongs on pigmented smooth leather with an intact finish, i.e., on leather that already has a closed top layer. Open-pored aniline leather, nubuck, and suede absorb every film-forming application and lose exactly what makes them what they are: the soft, matte, breathing surface. For these leathers, there is a separate refreshing base with Nubuck Fresh from COLOURLOCK, which preserves the fiber structure.

The second limit is in the word color-neutral. Where the color is really gone — a worn-through side bolster, a light core in the seat edge, scratches down to the fiber — a pigment-free base covers nothing. Then pigment belongs in the setup, as a mixed tint or as opaque color from the Leather Dyes from COLOURLOCK.

The third limit is safety-relevant and non-negotiable. Seat flanks carry the tear seam of the side airbag, and this seam must open upon deployment. If your damage is on or directly at this seam, it is a case for the saddler or a leather repair specialist, not for a bottle.

The fourth limit is the one we see most often, and it is self-inflicted. We often see surfaces where the base tears open again after a few weeks at the contact zones: cleanly applied, but only wiped off instead of degreased beforehand — the film lay on skin oil and never really bound. The second classic is the application that is too thick, which tears open in a patchy way when drying instead of matting uniformly. Both cost the entire work, both can be avoided with two additional minutes.

And an honest assessment of the result: A perfectly uniform matte finish on a large surface in the direct field of vision is the most demanding work of this range. Working through an entire seat surface in one go is significantly easier than fitting a palm-sized spot invisibly into an aged environment — there, it is not the color that reveals the intervention, but the gloss difference in grazing light.

Whether matte or glossy is decided by your factory leather

You make the choice between dull and glossy based on what is installed in your vehicle, not the look you wish for.

If your interior is from the last two decades, the answer is almost always the dull base: modern automotive leathers are finished with a silk-matte look, and every gloss buildup over that immediately looks like synthetic leather. If you are dealing with an older vehicle, a furniture set, or a classic car interior whose leather shines silkily from the factory, reach for the glossy neutral base from COLOURLOCK. If you are unsure, it is not the catalog that decides, but the unused surface in the same car.

When choosing the container, the area decides, not the aspiration. The 100 ml covers the classic individual cases: a steering wheel rim, a seat bolster, an armrest, a door panel. The 1000 ml / 1 liter are intended for complete seat systems and for all those who do a set in one go. Anyone starting from zero who does not want to search for cleaner, accessories, and base separately will find the shortest path to the first clean result among the Leather Fresh Sets from COLOURLOCK. The complete range from primer to finish is under Dyeing & Finish from COLOURLOCK.

The reference value for truly matte is in your own car anyway, and almost no one uses it. The back seat behind the passenger is hardly used and still carries exactly the gloss level from the factory. Place your sample area in the same light as this back seat, go to the shallow angle, and compare the reflection, not the color. No color fan and no product photo provides you with this comparison, because shine is always judged relative to the environment — and because no second leather is as close to your factory look as the one that remained untouched behind you.
